berlin

Berlin's mascot- the friendly-looking bear.

Scary statue- not sure who this is supposed to be.

Subway station

Altes ("old") Museum on the "Museum Island" with five different major museums all located near each other

Berlin Cathedral

"The War Memorial"- a mother holding the body of her son. Depressing! The roof above is open so that any type of weather can come in on the statue.

Humboldt University

Brandenburg Gate

Want to take a guess at what this hotel is famous for? I'll give you a minute. When you're ready for the answer, scroll down a bit...

The "Fallen Leaves" exhibit inside the Jüdische (Jewish) Museum. The metal faces can be walked on to represent all of the Jews killed in the Holocaust. The video below is me walking on the faces. Yes, you're supposed to!

We went to a vegetarian restaurant called Cookies Cream (yeah, I know...strange name for a veggie place) that has a hidden entrance. This was us trying to find it. You enter in an alley next to the Westin Hotel.

Searching...

...still searching...

Found the door!

You have to ring a buzzer...

Then you walk through a deserted lobby...

...and eventually you find the restaurant!

Mine...some sort of barley cake over oyster mushrooms. Yum!

Jason's...I think it was cannelloni beans and shimeji mushrooms.

Brandenburg at night. Beautiful.

Straight out of the 80's! Found her on a bus on the way to Sanssouci!

Windmill at Sanssouci - the former summer palace of Frederick the Great

After Sanssouci, we went to Cecilienhof where the Potsdam Conference took place.

Outside of Cecilienhof

View from Panoramapunkt- a building that takes you up 25 floors to get some of the best views of Berlin.

Drag show at the gay bar Rousch Gold in the Kreuzberg neighborhood. The show was a German operetta, so we had absolutely no clue what we were watching. Still, quite entertaining!

This and all of the following images are from the amazing East Side Gallery in Friedrichshain. These works serve as memorials for freedom.

Tom Waits art in a store window! Unfortunately, the store was closed :(

Inhaled a cupcake at Cupcake Berlin. A friend of a friend owns the place.

Posing with the bear mascot outside of our hotel. We bought a miniature of this guy as a souvenir!

And of course, a glimpse of German literature at its finest at the airport!

Wow, Howard, what great pictures. Intrigued with the faces that you walk on and what it symbolizes. Again, so glad you guys are making the most of your time there. Your new place looks amazing - how did the move go? Love to you both, av

Scary trying to find the restaurant, but the food looked interesting. I'm all over the cupcake place-that would have been a daily stop for me. Glad you went and had fun.
